Residents Watched as Man Tried to Pry Open, Break Into Their Home, Cops Say

Police caught the suspect a short distance away; one witness identified him.

A man faces criminal charges for prying open doors to a Kirkwood house while the owners were home.

Mark McCabe, 51, was charged Wednesday with first-degree attempted burglary and possessing burglar tools.

Kirkwood Police said the occupants watched as McCabe used a large screwdriver to pry open a side and a back door of a residence about 10:20 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 10900 block Big Bend Boulevard.

Police caught McCabe a short distance away, and one of the witnesses identified him.

McCabe is imprisoned in the Missouri Department of Corrections Northeast Correctional Center in Bowling Green. He previously served prison sentences after pleading guilty in 2006 and 2007 to burglary and theft charges.
