Man Tries to Sell Live Grenade in Kirkwood

Police say the owner of the piece of World War II memorabilia didn't realize the grenade posed a threat.

Kirkwood Police Department received an odd surprise when a man turned up with a military issue hand grenade last week.

According to police, an adult from High Ridge arrived at the Kirkwood Police Department with the grenade from World War II at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday.

He was referred to department after trying to sell the grenade as a relic not knowing that it was live.

Although the grenade was inert it still contained enough charge to cause a small explosion and injure someone in close proximity, according to police.

St Louis County Police Department Bomb and Arson responded and took possession of the grenade for disposal.
