Man Who Sped By Squad Car Faces Fourth Drunk Driving Charge, Police Say

Glendale police said the man's driver's license was revoked and he passed officers doing 20 mph over the speed limit.

The following information was supplied by court documents. It does not indicate a conviction where an arrest was made.

An Affton man who drove by a police car while doing 50 mph in a 30 mph zone now faces criminal charges, Glendale police said.

Jeffrey S. Kelly, 30, of the 9100 block of Lemona Drive in Affton, was charged Jan. 28 with DWI as an aggravated offender and driving while revoked.

Kelly has three previous alcohol-related driving convictions, and his driver’s license had been revoked.

Glendale police said Kelly passed a patrol car while speeding in the 700 block of Bismark Avenue. After pulling Kelly over, the officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and noticed Kelly’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. Kelly admitted drinking half a pint of vodka and two beers, according to the police report.

He did poorly on a sobriety field test and refused a Breathalyzer, police said.

Kelly’s three previous alcohol-related driving convictions were:

  • Nov. 6, 2008, he was found guilty of DWI in Crestwood
  • March 8, 2007, was found guilty of DWI in St. Louis County
  • Nov. 21, 2002, he was found guilty of driving with excessive blood-alcohol content.

Kelly is being held by the Missouri Department of Corrections. Bail was set at $30,000, cash only.
