String of Vehicle Break-ins Reported in Kirkwood

The following arrest information was supplied by the Kirkwood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The blotter for November 14 - 20.

Monday, November 14

  • Beginning at 7:34 a.m., police responded to several reports of vehicle break-ins. The first was at a residence in the 700 block of North Taylor Avenue for a theft report. Two vehicles at the residence were broken into overnight. Papers and change were stolen. A third vehicle was broken into at a neighboring residence. Nothing was stolen. Another theft of cash and a GPS was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Dickson Avenue. A fifth vehicle was broken into in the 100 block of Morningside Drive. A credit card was stolen and used at a nearby business.
  • At 10:54 a.m., officers were summoned to an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Clay Avenue. A resident reported finding a man sleeping in a guest suite closet. The adult male was arrested for trespassing and was also found to be wanted by a neighboring police agency for theft and drug related charges.  

Tuesday, Novemeber 15

  • At 8:30 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of South Kirkwood Road and Rosehill Avenue. No one was injured as a result of the collision. One driver involved in the accident, an adult male, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

Wednesday, November 16

  • At 12:29 p.m., officers stopped a motorist for a traffic violation on eastbound Interstate 44 at Berry Road in Oakland. Investigation led to the arrest of one female for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a stolen handgun was found in the vehicle. The handgun was stolen in a burglary in Oklahoma one day earlier. The case was referred to officials with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Thursday, November 17

  • At 3:07 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of George Avenue. An adult male was arrested after he arrived at the residence intoxicated with a gun threatening another man at the home. The man had been to the same location earlier in the day making threats with another gun but was disarmed and left the area. Police were not called during the first incident. The case was presented to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. Charges of first-degree burlgary and unlawful use of a weapon were issued against Thomas Hakenjos, 49, of the 400 block of Wilcox in Kirkwood.   He was transferred to the St. Louis County Jail and held on $50,000 bond. 

Firday, November 18

  • At 10:43 p.m., police were notified of a theft at several apartments located in the 10100 block of Manchester Road. Thieves dismantled several air conditioning units and stole the entire air conditioning units as well as the copper connections.  

Sunday, November 20

  • At 11:52 p.m., a robbery was reported at a business in the 10300 block of Manchester Road. .

Shoplifting, November 14-20

  • During the week, Kirkwood police arrested three adult females for shoplifting merchandise from area businesses. All incidents occurred at a retail store in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. Two of the females face additional charges as both were in possession of illegal narcotics at the time of their arrests.
