Police Blotter: Driver Falls Asleep, Overturns Vehicle

The following arrest information was supplied by the Kirkwood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The blotter for September 12 - 18.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

  • Shortly after 4 p.m., a middle school student who was bicycling home from school observed a vehicle travelling east on Argonne approaching the intersection of Fillmore and Argonne. (See )

  • At 4:05 p.m., an employee of a business located in the 9600 block of Big Bend in Oakland reported the theft of her purse.  She left her purse unattended while working and when she returned it was discovered missing. Vehicle keys and a social security card were in the purse when it was stolen.
  • At 11:03 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Big Bend Road and Forest Avenue. One vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle. The adult male driver of the second vehicle was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested. A passenger in the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

Thursday, Sept. 15

  • At 8:26 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Rockridge Place for a theft report. The resident reported two license plates stolen from his vehicle parked outside of the residence. 

Friday, Sept. 16

  • Detectives obtained three Burglary 1st Degree warrants on Nicholes Blackwell, 30, of the 8400 block of Red Fir Drive in St Louis County, from the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The three burglaries occurred during the first week of August 2011 and were all located in the Osage Hills Subdivision. 

Saturday, Sept. 17

  • At 12:20 a.m., officers stopped a motorist for a traffic violation on eastbound Interstate 44 near the Sappington Road overpass. Officers located marijuana in the vehicle and the driver, and adult male, was arrested. He also had three outstanding warrants through St. Louis area police jurisdictions. 
  • At 2:50 p.m., police responded to a business burglary in the 10700 block of Manchester Road. Two doors were damaged at the business but nothing was reported stolen.

Sunday, Sept. 18

  • At 5:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Manchester Road and Woodgate Drive. One vehicle ran off the roadway when the adult male driver fell asleep. The vehicle struck a tree and the overturned before landing upright. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

Shoplifiting, Sept. 12-18

  • arrested three adult males and two adult females for shoplifting merchandise from area businesses. The incidents occurred at retail stores located in the 10400 block of Manchester Road and the 1000 and 1200 blocks of South Kirkwood Road. One of the females was charged with felony stealing since she had at least two prior theft-related convictions. Her case will be referred to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
