Identity Theft, Stolen Wallet Reported by Kirkwood Residents

Police are investigating after recent reports if residents' credit cards being used to make online purchases for electronics and other items.

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. 

Thursday, Feb. 26:

At 5:28 p.m., police received a call of a wallet stolen from a purse in the 800 block of South Holmes Avenue in Oakland. The victim reportedly left her purse unattended while using the restroom the previous day, then later noticed her wallet missing. The victim also reported several unauthorized online purchases made with her stolen credit cards.

Friday, March 1:

At 4:50 p.m., a resident in the 700 block of Evans Avenue reported identity theft. The victim's Visa credit card number had been used to make purchases at Bestbuy.com. Police said it was used to buy a Nintendo Wii which was delivered to an address in Texas.

Saturday, March 2:

At 12:48 p.m., a blue mountain bike was found on a vacant lot in the 300 block of South Fillmore Avenue. The bike is currently being held at the Kirkwood Police Station. 

Monday, Feb. 25 - Sunday, March 3

During the week, police made two arrests for shoplifting from stores in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. Authorities said both cases were referred to municipal court.
