Kirkwood Police Warn of Recent Phone Scams

Two Kirkwood residents contacted police after reportedly falling victim to the scams and losing money.

 The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. 

Kirkwood police are reminding residents to beware of phone scams where thecaller is requesting money.

Two Kirkwood residents recently contacted police to report they'd fallen victim to such phone scams. Police said the first victim was called by someone claiming to be her grandson who was in jail and needed money for bond.

The other victim was called and told he won a sweepstakes, police stated.

Authorities said that in both cases, the victims purchased pre-paid credit cards and gave the callers the card numbers over the phone. The funds were immediately withdrawn from the accounts.
