Council Live Blog: Manor Grove Expansion Moves Forward

The Kirkwood City Council heard several permit requests for construction projects at its Thursday meeting.

7:07pm: Meeting begins. Pledge of Allegiance.

7:08pm: Assistant Finance Director Sandy Stephens is honored as she completed the necessary steps to become a Certified Public Finance Officer. The mayor presents Stephens with her certificate of completion with pride. She is the only CPFO in the city.

7:12pm: Mayor wishes good luck to council members traveling abroad for vacation. Iggy Yuan will travel to China; Bob Sears will be going to Ireland.

7:19pm: requests a Special Use Exemption to construct a 585 square foot dining room and 780 square foot kitchen on its property. The addition is planned to be one story and will be located in an interior courtyard on the property. It will be completely surrounded by an existing two-story structure. Scott Volding of Volding Architecture answers the council's questions about the addition. Request passes its first reading. There is no planned increase in staff or residents at Manor Grove.

7:26pm: Public comments. Residents thank council for their support for the April 2 Food Drive April 2.

7:38pm: Council approves consent agenda.

7:40pm: Bill 10152 passes final reading. The bill provides 11 new traffic speed control radar units for the police department, where the current equipment is in disrepair.

7:52pm: Council approves a special use exception for a convenience store in a mixed-use, multi-tenant building at 640 West Woodbine. Council passes the bill after amending the plans to require the planting of six new trees as well as parking lot re-striping as a condition of the permit.

7:58- The Architectural Review Board has carefully re-written their section of the Kirkwood Code of Ordinances. The new ordinance increases the size of the board from five to seven members, and more clearly defines several specific design guidelines for residential construction in the city. Council approves the bill's first reading.

8:15- Meeting is adjourned.
