Gianino's No Longer Seeks Downtown Space

The restaurant will not expand its business at a former retail space in Downtown Kirkwood.

Bill Gianino has withdrawn his application for a special use exception permit for a restaurant at 121 N. Kirkwood Rd.

The news came in the form of an email to Kirkwood City Clerk Betty Montano from Gianino's lawyer, Bud Pennington, last week.

Kirkwood's Planning and Zoning Commission denied Gianino's request for a permit at its June 15 meeting, citing parking and trash issues. Gianino appealed to the to reconsider the commission's decision during a public hearing at the council's July 21 meeting.

After hearing the request, councilors asked Gianino to come back to council with more information on how he plans to address employee parking, food delivery time, valet parking and trash disposal.

"I hope (Gianino) is still looking at some other sites in the community," Mayor Art McDonnell said. "There are a number of other sites that would serve well for a restaurant."

Pennington did not return a request for comment by the time of publication.
