Glendale Hires Creve Coeur Official As City Administrator

Jaysen Christensen will begin his new duties February 11.

The City of Glendale hired Jaysen Christensen Monday to succeed Jeremy Hayes as the City Administrator. Hayes, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, is leaving to follow his wife's job out of the area.

"He was among a group that stood out from the applicants," Hayes said Tuesday.

Christensen has been the assistant City Administrator in Creve Coeur for 8 years, the paper reported. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

"Jaysen is an outstanding professional with many accomplishments to his credit during his time in Creve Coeur. City staff, along with the City Council and the Boards and Commissions with whom he worked will all miss him," Creve Coeur City Administrator Mark Perkins said in an email. His statement did not address how the city will move to replace his position.

Hayes said interviews for the position were held last month and that Christensen's experience in the St. Louis County area was a big factor in his selection, as were his accomplishments. Christensen will inherit a city workforce of 35 full time employees, in addition to some part-time and seasonal workers.

This is Hayes' final week working for the city. He's had the chance to talk with Christensen about the transition several times and on Thursday will host him to help get him up to speed on issues.

Hayes cited the upcoming Kirkham Avenue project, which will be in the construction phase next year as a big item facing the city, as is the continuing work of keeping the city desireable for residents.

For his part, Hayes said he'll remember the close-knit community of 5900 residents he's leaving behind, calling Glendale a "really unique situation where our residents are especially pleasant, polite folks to work with."

"The City of Glendale will be fortunate to have a City Administrator of his caliber and he will serve their community very well," Creve Coeur's Perkins said of Christensen.
