There is no fee to drop off lights, and 100 percent of the holiday lights collected will be recycled. The lights are broken down into their component parts, and both the glass and the plastic get sent to the appropriate recyclers. The recycled copper will be sold, with the proceeds benefiting St. Louis Green and Operation Food Search.

“Everything is recycled,” said Cindy Breth with St. Louis Green in a statement. “Nothing goes to the landfill.”

Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis to help with the sorting process.  Volunteers are also needed on Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 to help distribute flyers at area malls.

Interested volunteers should contact Cindy Breth at 314-795-9520 or cindy@stlouigreen.com.
