New Kirkwood Park to Open in October

Avery Park will include a basketball court, pavilion and playground equipment.

Plans are on track for Avery Park in Kirkwood to open in early October with a formal dedication around the middle of the month.

Last week construction workers installed the park's pavilion and poured a new concrete curb along the border of the park, the City of Kirkwood reports on its Facebook page. The park is located at 221-225 Avery Drive.

This week the basketball court is due to be painted, sidewalks are to be completed, fence installation will begin and the playground safety surface is to be installed, Kirkwood Parks Director Murray Pounds says.

This picture is a before shot of the park site. City of Kirkwood Facebook will be posting construction pictures with a "finished" photo in October, so be sure to Like the page for updates on the park and other city happenings.

At the beginning of the planning process/forum for the park, a resident suggested a skate park be included. I think a basketball court and a playground will be great at this location, but at some point I would like to see a skate park in Kirkwood.
