New Raising Cane's Restaurant Process Starts

Des Peres city officials launch review process to explore possibility of establishing a new restaurant at 12215 Manchester Rd.

A new restaurant, called Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, may be heading to Des Peres. The proposed restaurant's application process just launched with the city's Planning and Zoning commissioners, said Des Peres City Administrator Doug Harms.

In the 12215 Manchester Rd. location, the restaurant would go into what Harms said is the former Deutschmann Florists & Greenhouses Inc. The location backs up to Des Peres Park.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers is a fast-food restaurant chain founded in Baton Rouge, LA, by Todd Graves and Craig Silvey on August 26, 1996. The restaurant offers chicken fingers as its only main course.

Harms said subcommittee members of the Planning and Zoning Commission next will meet with the developer for the restaurant and solicit public comment. "It will be 30 to 45 days before they will make a recommendation."

If commissioners ultimately recommend the restaurant, a public hearing will be conducted as part of the Des Peres Board of Aldermen process. Harms said if the project proceeds, the hearing likely would not occur until late March or early April.

"The process just started, so we'll see if any issues surface," said Harms.

"With restaurants, it's always about the impact on traffic."

However, he said there may not be any issues with traffic for this location because a cross-easement exists with the nearby shopping center. He said developers would be required to file a traffic report.
