2 Kirkwood School Board Seats Up for Grabs

Angie Bay and Kathy Harris will not seek re-election to the Kirkwood School Board in 2013. Candidate filing for the open seats begins Dec. 11 with an election to be held April 2.

At its meeting on Nov. 5, the Kirkwood Board of Education called for the annual school board election to be held on April 2, 2013. Two positions for director of the Kirkwood Board of Education will be decided.

The opening date for filing for the April 2, 2013, annual school election is Tuesday, December 11, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The closing date for filing for the April 2 election is Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 7:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All other filings will be accepted during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kirkwood School District is closed for winter break from Dec. 22, 2012 through Jan. 6, 2013; schools may also be closed due to inclement weather.

Persons interested in filing for the two open positions may do so in the Office of the Superintendent at the Administrative Services Center, 11289 Manchester Road.  To be eligible for the Kirkwood Board of Education, an applicant must; - be a citizen of the United States, - be a resident taxpayer of the Kirkwood School District, - be at least 24 years old, - have, or will have, resided in Missouri for one year prior to the April 2, 2013, election.

The two board members whose terms expire in 2013 are Angie Bay and Kathy Harris. Neither one is planning to seek re-election.

According to Missouri law, section 115.124, if the number of candidates who have filed for the office is equal to the number of positions in that office to be filled by the election, no election shall be held for such office and the candidates shall assume the responsibilities of their offices at the same time and in the same manner as if they had been elected.
