Two Seats Up for Grabs on Kirkwood School Board

Candidate filing begins Dec. 13 for the April 3 election.

At its meeting on Nov. 9, the Kirkwood Board of Education called for the annual school board election to be held on April 3. Two positions for director of the Kirkwood Board of Education will be decided. Each member of the board serves for a term of three years.

The opening date for filing for the election is Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The closing date for filing is Jan. 17, from 7:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All other filings will be accepted during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. The is closed for winter break from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, and in honor of Martin Luther King on Jan. 16. Schools may also be closed due to inclement weather.

Persons interested in filing for the two open positions may do so in the Office of the Superintendent at the Administrative Services Center, 11289 Manchester Road.

To be eligible for the Kirkwood Board of Education, an applicant must

  • be a citizen of the United States,
  • be a resident taxpayer of the Kirkwood School District,
  • be at least 24 years old,
  • have, or will have, resided in Missouri for one year prior to the election.

The two board members whose terms expire in 2012 are John Glunt and Andy Stewart. Stewart plans to seek re-election; Glunt will not seek re-election.

According to Missouri law, section 115.124, if the number of candidates who have filed for the office is equal to the number of positions in that office to be filled by the election, no election shall be held for such office and the candidates shall assume the responsibilities of their offices at the same time and in the same manner as if they had been elected.
