Iraqi War Veteran to Deliver Keynote Address at STLCC-Meramec’s Disability Awareness Day
Brian Hawthorne, board member for Student Veterans of America, will be the keynote speaker for Disability Awareness Day Friday, April 29, at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.
Hawthorne’s presentation, “Investing in the Future of Those Who Have Served,” begins at 10 a.m. in the Theatre. He also will discuss the experience and leadership that student veterans bring to the college classroom.

After returning from Baghdad in 2008, Hawthorne became the first legislative director and now board member for Student Veterans of America. He co-founded the GW Veterans Organization at The George Washington University. He has spoken publicly across the nation about the transition to college from military service, and has testified before Congress regarding the GI Bill and other veterans’ benefits.
The Meramec Access office will hold its annual awards ceremony immediately following Hawthorne’s address.
