Turkey Day Game 2011

The first officially recorded Thanksgiving Day football game between (KHS) and neighboring (WGHS) was held in 1907. Since then, with only a few exceptions, the two schools have met each year on the football field to compete for the “Turkey Day Championship” and the coveted Frisco Bell trophy, donated by the Frisco Railroad Company in 1952. The losers of the game must settle for a consolation prize, the Little Brown Jug, which was lost from 1972 until 1992.

Tickets for the Turkey Day Game are on sale in the KHS athletic office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are also available at the central office and in elementary and middle school offices. Tickets also are on sale in the main and activities offices at WGHS. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the game. Proceeds from advance tickets sold in the Kirkwood School District are contributed to KHS programs. Tickets sold in the Webster Groves School District go toward Webster. Proceeds from tickets sold at the gate are divided between Kirkwood and Webster Groves. For ticket information, call the KHS Athletic Dept. at 314-213-6116 or the WGHS Activities Dept. at 314-963-6400.

More than just a football game, Turkey Day has become a celebration of spirit and pride for both communities. Kickoff for the main event the 2011 Turkey Day Game is at noon at Lyons Field at Kirkwood High School.
