Kirkwood High Band Director Reportedly Resigns Over Inappropriate Conduct with Student

FOX2 reports Kirkwood High School Band Director Jason Rekittke resigned Monday, however, police say it does not appear a crime was committed and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Kirkwood High School Band Director Jason Rekittke resigned Monday over inappropriate conduct with a student, according to a FOX2 report.

The Kirkwood School District sent the following letter to families Monday announcing the resignation. The district adds they believe it was an isolated incident that occurred several years ago.

Dear Kirkwood School District Families,

I am writing this e-mail to announce the resignation of Jason Rekittke, the band director for the Kirkwood School District. The resignation is due to an act of inappropriate conduct with a student, which happened several years ago. We believe this was an isolated incident.

Our first and most important mission is to provide the best education to help our students be successful. However, this cannot be accomplished without a safe and secure learning environment. While we cannot discuss the specifics of any personnel matter, please be assured that we have strict policies prohibiting inappropriate conduct toward students and we take immediate action upon receiving reports of any violation of those policies.

The Kirkwood Police Department issued the following statement in a news release Monday evening in regard to the resignation. It asks for anyone with information to contact police, but states at this time it does not appear a crime was committed.

The Kirkwood Police Department met with officials from the Kirkwood School District concerning an allegation of inappropriate conduct by a former staff member of Kirkwood High School that was reported to have occurred several years ago.

At this time it does not appear that any crime has been committed. If anyone has any information concerning a criminal offense involving a current or former Kirkwood School District employee they should contact Detective Dave Smith of the Kirkwood Police Department at 314-984-5905.
