Kirkwood High to Welcome 30 Veterans

Kirkwood High School observes Veterans Day with the 20th anniversary of a dynamic speaker program.

As part of the Kirkwood School District’s annual observation of Veterans Day, Kirkwood High School (801 W. Essex) will welcome over 30 veterans on Friday, November 9, 2012. 

Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf will be speaking to students in their social studies classes throughout the day (7:40a.m.-2:40 p.m.) and will have lunch with the students in the cafeteria.

 An army truck will arrive on campus at 7 a.m. and be on display near the Dougherty Ferry lot.

 The Veterans Day speakers program began in 1993. State Rep. Rick Stream, former school board member and a Vietnam veteran, coordinated the speakers program for Kirkwood High School. Vietnam veteran Bill Burckhalter coordinated with American Legion Kirkwood Post 156 on arranging the Armed Forces veterans to speak to students.
