Kirkwood School Board Names Interim Member

Former board member Andrew Stewart will fill the spot left vacant by Heidi Meckes after she resigned for personal reasons last month.

The Kirkwood School District Board of Education selected Andrew Stewart as an interim board member to fill the vacancy left by Heidi Meckes after she resigned for personal reasons last month.

Stewart, who had previously served on the board 2009-2012, was sworn in immediately after appointment. Stewart will serve the remainder of Meckes's term that expires in 2014.

Board President Dr. Scott Stream said a total of 10 applicants initially came forward, which was then reduced to nine. The board voted 5-1 for Stewart's appointment.

"I think it's very important, particularly with the turnover that is coming, to have somebody who has experience in our district," said Board Director Angie Bay at the meeting Monday.

Bay's term as well as Board Member Kathy Harris's expire this year. The election for their seats will take place April 2.
