Mouse Derby Nets $12,000 for Kirkwood Early Childhood Programs

Annual event benefits the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center and the Parents as Teachers program.

Organizers of this year's Mouse Race fundraiser for the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center (KECC) and Parent as Teachers (PAT) program are calling the event a huge success - in fact, the best ever.

The KECC/PAT PTO sponsored the event, which was held at the Kirkwood Community Center April 15. Jennifer Knuckles, the organization's vice president, said money raised during the last three annual events has increased by $1,000 each year.

"First it was $10,000, then it was $11,000 and now this year, we raised $12,000," she said. "We're very, very happy. It just gets better every year."

She said the money will be divided equally between the KECC and the PAT program. Specifically, it will help support classroom and parent education funding, education classes, academic programs and supplies, staff enrichment, classroom field trips and family fun nights.
