New President to Lead Meramec Campus

George Wasson, vice president for academic affairs at STLCC Meramec campus, will assume the role of president July 1.

The St. Louis Community College (STLCC) Board of Trustee approved the appointment of George Wasson as president of the at its Thursday meeting.

Wasson currently serves as vice president for academic affairs at the campus. He will step into the new post July 1, according to the college.

“We are confident that George will work with the board, faculty, staff and students to continue the outstanding work done on the Meramec campus and position it to meet the future needs of the community,” said Denise Chachere, chair of the STLCC Board of Trustees, in a written statement.

Wasson already has experience at the new position. The vice president for academic affairs served as Meramec’s acting president from April through August 2010, when Zerrie Campbell assumed the duties of interim president.

In addition to his current position at the campus, Wasson has served as an economics instructor, business administration/economics department chair and acting dean of Meramec's business division.

Wasson holds master's and bachelor's degrees in economics from Indiana University. He currently is working toward a doctorate in management, community college policy and administration at the University of Maryland's University College, according to Meramec.
