Pensions Run High for Kirkwood Educators

The Kirkwood School District ranks second in top St. Louis County public school teacher salaries and estimated pensions for 2010.

Thirteen former or current employees of the Kirkwood School District are estimated to make $63 million throughout their lifetimes in taxpayer-supported pensions after they retire, stated a list released by Taxpayers United of America (TUA) Tuesday, the St. Louis-Post Dispatch reports.

Of St. Louis County public school districts, Kirkwood had the second-most employees making TUA's list of the top 100 St. Louis County government teacher salaries and estimated pensions for 2010, with a combined annual cost of $1.5 million per year, the Post-Dispatch reports.

Of those Kirkwood educators, Deborah Holmes, former assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, is expected to receive the highest estimated pension at $133,913 annually for an estimated lifetime payout of $5,758,238. In 2010, Holmes earned $168,550 in total wages, based on TUA data.

The Parkway School District had the most employees making the list with a total of 15, at a combined annual cost of $1.7 million per year and a combined estimated lifetime payout of $73 million, the Post-Dispatch reports.
