School Resource Officer Wrangles Lost Horse to Safety

A horse was found grazing at North Kirkwood Middle School. Luckily School Resource Officer Yvonne Bonner was there to take the reins.

A strange incident occurred last week at  which proves a school resource officer must wear many hats.

Officials found a lost horse grazing in front of the school Sept. 5. Fortunately, School Resource Officer Yvonne Bonner has experience with horses. She rode the animal safely home and back to its barn, the school says on its Facebook page.

The post on the school's wall has garnered at least 79 likes and 23 comments. One poster describes the events in more detail:

"For all concerned, Officer Bonner rounded up the horse with the help of staff who were working on the grounds of NKMS. She says she radioed for a patrol car, and wound up with something to tie to the horse to begin the walk home. She then rode the horse down Geyer, garnering much attention as she went, and took the horse home. What a lady! We are so proud and fortunate to have Yvonne Bonner keeping the streets and schools safe in Kirkwood!"

Kirkwood is extremely lucky to have Officer Bonner as an SRO and a police officer with The City of Kirkwood. She is AMAZING with the kids of ALL ages and seems to really "reach" them and has thier best interest at heart. She goes out of her way to work with them and is always there if they need to talk or have a problem of any kind. I truely do believe that this is her true "calling" and she ROCKS at it!!! I do hope that Kirkwood School District & Kirkwood Police Dept realize what an asset they have in Officer Yvonne Bonner!!! Thank You for ALL you do for the kids and citizens of Kirkwood! You are the BEST!!! I am looking forward to many more years of you working with the kids and the school and being there for my kid, helping, teaching and showing her and leading by example!! Thank You again Officer Bonner for ALL you do!!! You are truely a VIP!!! :)
