The school district said in a release Thursday that Melsha has been in the district's music program for 10 years and a music educator for 25 years.

The recommendation comes a few days after former band director Jason Rekittke resigned over inappropriate conduct with a student. The district said the incident is believed to be isolated and occurred several years ago.

As Patch previously reported, as of Monday, the Kirkwood Police Department said it does not appear the incident constitutes any crime.

The release added that Melsha's current position will be posted for applicants as a one-year contract, and the Kirkwood band director position posted later this year.
