Exciting Mobile News for The Magic House

The Magic House develops mobile app to encourage play experience between parents and their children.

When The Magic House was created our founders wanted to ensure that our exhibits were developed to be not only fun, educational and entertaining for the thousands of kids that visit us each year, but also for the parents and adults that accompany those children.  Our goal was that parents would want to engage with their children while visiting The Magic House, helping to teach and overall just enjoy a play experience together.

This is something that has stuck with us for over 30 years as we have developed our exhibits and I hope to see it continue for many years to come. I believe there is something so valuable in that shared experience with your child instead of just sitting back and catching up on your emails while they play on their own.  Recently we have noticed a change in behavior as cell phones have become such a prominent part of our lives. And I cannot lie, I have to remind myself to put my phone away when I am playing with my son. To not always check for the latest email, tweet or Facebook post but to make sure that the time I spend with my child is focused on him!

With this new observation in mind, The Magic House decided to create our very own app with the goal to enhance your experience in our museum and take advantage of the phone in your hand.  Our hope is that this can provide yet another reason for you to continue to engage with your child during your visit!  Our app is in development now, close to the final stages of development at that, and we are so excited that we will soon be able to share it, for free, with the visitors of The Magic House or those just planning a visit!

In addition to having information about the museum like our hours and events at your fingertips, the main feature in the App will be the ability to ‘Create A Book’ and document your child’s journey on their visit.  We will have a suggested list of exhibits for you to visit throughout the museum and the app will then direct you through a process to create your Storybook pages.  You will be able to enter your own text about your visit and adjust the pages to customize your family’s experience. And of course we will add in features to share some of these great experiences socially with your friends.  The app will also allow you to save your Storybook to your phone so that your child can go back and relive their visit to The Magic House as many times as they wish!

We are excited about finalizing the development and giving parents a reason to use their phones with their children to enhance their experience at The Magic House!  Stay tuned for details on when this app will become available!
