Police Chief Says Accident Involving 5 Year Old Was Avoidable

Glendale police chief reminds parents to heed an elementary school's drop off and pick up policy after a student was struck by a car.

Glendale Police Police Chief Jeff Beaton called a recent accident in which a car struck a 5-year-old student “very unfortunate and avoidable." The following information was provided by the Glendale Police Department. On Oct. 3 at 8:31 a.m., police investigated a traffic crash involving a student from North Glendale Elementary School and a motorist in front of the school. The investigation revealed the motorist had just stopped at the crosswalk in front of the school and was proceeding south on N. Sappington Road when a 5-year-old student was dropped off by his mother in front of the school, ran in front of the mother’s vehicle – not in the marked crosswalk – and was struck by the passing southbound vehicle. Kirkwood Driver Injured in 3-Car Collision

A rear-end vehicular impact on Thursday resulted in a three-auto accident that sent a driver from Kirkwood to a local hospital.

Christopher Niehoff, a 31-year-old motorist from Eureka, was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram on Thursday afternoon, and ran into the back of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe being driven by Marggie Bonner, 30, of Kirkwood, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol records. Bonner and another driver, Joseph Kemper, had been stopped for traffic. The rear-end jolt from Niehoff's pickup caused Bonner's vehicle to hit Kemper's 1999 Chevrolet S10. Kemper is a 34-year-old resident of DeSoto. The accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. on Missouri Route 109 at Emerald View Parkway in Eureka. Car Plows Through Home in Des Peres

The accident reportedly happened after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

A Des Peres home sustained extensive damage after a car plowed through the front window of a residence in the 11000 block of Lillian Avenue. The crash happened just after noon Monday, KMOV reports. The station also reports that according to authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle and was suffering from a medical condition. The driver was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown. No one was home at the time of the crash according to police, KMOV reports.  Patch has a call into Des Peres public safety officials to learn more about the incident. No One Injured in Vehicle Fire Outside Kirkwood

Kirkwood Fire and Frontenac Police responded after a compactor truck caught fire Thursday morning near the intersection of Manchester and North Kirkwood roads.

No one was injured when a compactor truck caught fire just outside of Kirkwood Thursday morning. MoDOT alerted Twitter followers to the incident which occurred near Manchester and Kirkwood roads in Frontenac at 6:25 a.m. The fire did not cause an accident. Kirkwood Fire and Frontenac Police responded to the incident. According to Kirkwood Fire Chief Tom Openlander, the only way to address this type of situation is for the compactor truck to dump its load and for firefighters to start spraying water on the debris, City of Kirkwood Public Information Officer Beth von Behren said.  Follow Kirkwood Patch on Twitter @KirkwoodPatch.

CRIME LOG: 20 Warrants Catch Up With Driver in Kirkwood

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The Kirkwood police blotter for Sept. 3-9.  Friday, Sept. 7  Officers on patrol located a one vehicle accident near the intersection of Leffingwell and Holmes avenues. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Routine computer checks on the driver revealed he had a suspended driver’s license through the State of Missouri. He also had at least 20 outstanding warrants through three St. Louis area police departments. He was arrested and held for transfer to those agencies.  Wednesday, Sept. 5 At 8:15 a.m., police received a report of a fraud that occurred at a retail business in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. The reporting party was an employee of a business in Pittsburgh, PA. A debit card for the business was cloned and …

I would imagine a very concerted effort of not showing up to hearings and lost bail money along the way. But, the Kirkwood Police Department doesn't regularly provide names of arrestees in its crime logs, so the exact warrants are uncertain.   more ›

POLICE: Drug, Alcohol Arrests Follow Multi-Car Accidents in Kirkwood

Incidents occurred in central and north Kirkwood.

Police dealt with two multi-car accidents in Kirkwood last week, both reportedly involving illegal drugs or alcohol. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Geyer Road and Kirkshire Drive for a motor vehicle accident at 6:13 p.m., Aug. 21. According to police, one vehicle was sideswiped by another while both were traveling on Geyer. Police arrested one of the drivers after he was found to be allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Then on Aug. 23 at 2:40 p.m., police responded to a three vehicle accident near the intersection of South Kirkwood Road and East Rose Hill Avenue. After police investigated the accident, the driver of one of the vehicles was allegedly in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He …

Des Peres Father Helps Rescue Victims From Fiery Car Wreck

Joe Caruso, who considers himself "just another dad," sprung into action when he and his daughter found themselves in the middle of a disastrous situation just outside Des Peres.

A Des Peres father played the role of action hero Tuesday when he helped victims of a fiery car crash at the intersection of Dougherty Ferry and Carman roads to safety. Joe Caruso doesn't claim to have super powers, however, calling himself "just another dad." The people he saved may have a different opinion. Kirkwood Teen Injured in Golf Cart Crash

Three St. Louis-area teenagers were involved in a golf cart crash Saturday night.

Three teens, including one from Kirkwood, were injured in a golf cart crash Saturday night. The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. four miles of Ironton on Killarney Drive. The golf cart, driven by 16-year-old Matthew Bruns of Kirkwood, crossed a T-intersection and overturned in a ditch.  Riding with Bruns in the cart were 15-year-old St. Peters resident Lauren Gamache and 15-year-old St Charles resident Andrew Huber. Bruns and Huber were taken by ambulance to Iron County Hospital with minor injuries. Gamache was taken by ambulance to Parkland Hospital with moderate injuries. The golf cart sustained minor damage.

UPDATE: Police ID Victims in Fatal Motorcycle Wreck

A couple from Michigan were vacationing when they were killed Thursday in an accident near the Big Bend Road and Interstate 44 intersection in Kirkwood.

A couple from Michigan were vacationing when they were killed Thursday after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car at the intersection of Big Bend Road and South Holmes Avenue. The victims are Jeffrey and Ronda Gallagher, both 49-years-old, of Fenwick, MI. The couple was visiting family, Patch.com partner Fox2Now reports. California Man Charged in Fatal Accident Involving Vianney Graduate

St. Louis County Court records show Dale Kawamura was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Assault in connection with the Olive Boulevard crash that killed Clayton Pfeiffer.

Patch has confirmed that prosecutors have charged Dale Kawamura, 36, of Oakland, CA, in connection with the February 2012 crash on Olive Boulevard near Creve Coeur Mill Road which claimed the life of 2011 Vianney graduate Clayton Pfeiffer. (Sign up for the Kirkwood Patch newsletter for breaking news alerts.)  Kawamura has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and assault. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chesterfield police said Kawamura was driving with meth in his system. Police said Kawamura's vehicle was heading eastbound on Olive and struck Pfeiffer's vehicle and another. According to court records, the charges were filed June 13.
