Andy’s Frozen Custard’s developer will need to seek a variance from the board of adjustment before proceeding to the Kirkwood City Council for final approval.
Andy’s Frozen Custard is one step closer to becoming a reality in Kirkwood after the city’s planning and zoning commission voted unanimously in favor of the development at their Jan. 2 meeting. The petitioner of the development, Greg Anderson of Ozark Custard LLC, plans demolish the former Long John Silver’s Restaurant building at 311 South Kirkwood Rd. to build the new Andy’s Frozen Custard. The building has been vacant since 2006. The new, 1600 square feet store will employ approximately 25 people, mostly part-time positions, according to a planning and zoning report. Andy's Frozen Custard could take a step forward tonight as it looks to open its first St. Louis chain in Downtown Kirkwood. Members of the Kirkwood Planning and Zoning Commission will vote whether to approve the development of an Andy's store at 311 S. Kirkwood Rd. during their regular meeting at 7 p.m. in City Hall. Andy's Frozen Custard has applied for a special use exception permit to move into the old Long John Silver's restaurant. The store would include a drive thru. When Andy's first went before the city's planning commission Dec. 5, questions for the company's petitioner focused on the amount of proposed parking, landscaping around the structure and general questions about the business, including who would own the Kirkwood …

The restaurant is seeking a permit to open its first store in the St. Louis area in Downtown Kirkwood.
Downtown Kirkwood's shopping district could see an Andy's Frozen Custard in the coming months. The popular dessert chain is asking the City of Kirkwood for a special use exception permit to open a restaurant with a drive thru at 311 South Kirkwood Rd., next to Grapevine Wines & Cheese and across the street from Culpeppers Grill and Bar.
