The Kirkwood City Council will vote on a proposed station and convenience store at 915 North Kirkwood Rd.
Even though a U-Gas did not find the favor of the city's planning and zoning commission, it's not stopping the business from pursuing development of a station and convenience store near the corner of Manchester and North Kirkwood roads. A public hearing for the proposed U-Gas at 915 North Kirkwood Rd. has been placed on the Kirkwood City Council's Feb. 7 agenda. When the city's planning and zoning commission denied recommending a special use exception permit for U-Gas, homeowners opposed to the development considered the decision a victory. U-Gas expressed an interest in appealing the commission's decision months ago, but the city was waiting for the business to submit a revised site plan before it could set a public hearing. During the …

City councilors voted 4-3 to turn the Kirkwood Mobil gas station at North Geyer and Manchester roads into a Mobil on the Run, a move that has met with the disapproval of some neighboring residents.
Kirkwood will be getting a bigger, fancier gas station at North Geyer and Manchester roads, but not everybody is happy about it. More than 50 residents attended Thursday night's meeting of Kirkwood City Council to protest the expansion of the existing Mobil station at the busy intersection. The expansion would increase the number of islands at the station from four to eight and include a new convenience store. Wallis Companies, which owns the station, anticipate a 100 percent increase in gas revenue and a 50 percent increase in convenience store revenue. Ten residents addressed council about the development during Thursday's public comments section of the meeting. Many expressed concerns about noise and congestion. But every resident, …

Some Kirkwood residents question plans to expand the Mobil gas station at the corner of Manchester and North Geyer Roads.
Residents from the neighborhood surrounding the Mobil gas station at the corner of Manchester and North Geyer Roads gathered near the station Tuesday night to learn more about a proposed expansion of the longtime Kirkwood business that has some of them worried. Kevin Kamp, senior project manager with Civil & Environmental Consultants, presented the plans to a subcommittee of the Kirkwood Planning and Zoning Commission as part of an on-site review. The plans call for the demolition of business space at 1136-1150 Manchester Road and an extension of the station to Simmons Avenue. Construction would add four gas pumps, bringing the total number of pumps to eight, as well as an On the Run convenience store to replace the current Mobil store. …

Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District anticipates a steady progression for Farmers Market in 2011.
The Downtown Kirkwood Advisory Commission met Wednesday to address an agenda primarily concerning the farmers market. The commission conducted a discussion with the Farmers Market Committee regarding 2011 rates and vendor reservations. The Farmers Market Committee suggested that the rental rates would not increase from 2010 in an effort to encourage more local vendor representation. According to market committee chair Walter Smith, Kirkwood rates are the most expensive amongst the regional farmers markets. “If you go to the farmers market, you see that we’re full, but we only have a handful of local vendors,” Smith said. “We just sent out the vendor market applications for this year, and the vendor rate increases from ten to fifteen …

I don't understand how the Council could have approved this without either a traffic study or an environmental impact statement. Thank you to Council members Biedenstein, Jaksetic and Sears.   more ›
