Help Me Raise Money for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Affton-Shrewsbury Patch editor Lindsay Toler will be working as a "celebrity waiter" at Canyon Cafe for the annual fundraiser.

When I volunteer at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery, I'm always surprised by how much the children seem to need me. Here I am, a total stranger, but they still push past each other for the chance to be held, rocked, sung to, cuddled until they fall asleep. Volunteering for the Nursery is easy, in a way. It's like babysitting, but the social workers do the actual hard work (like disciplining, making dinner, etc.) All I have to do is play, hug and smile at little ones who seem desperate for positive attention. Area Restaurants Give Back This Holiday Season

A number of local restaurants are collecting donations. See how you can help someone in need while enjoying a great bite.

Beautiful tin and paper ornaments adorn the Christmas tree in the bar at Milagro Modern Mexican in Webster Groves. Below the tree is space for plenty of presents, which will hopefully be donated by hungry, generous patrons. Milagro is collecting new unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots campaign through the month end of the month. Bring a donation for Toys for Tots and get a free appetizer for your table. But Milagro is not the only local restaurant feeling charitable this holiday season. Mike Duffy's in Kirkwood is holding a food drive for Kirkcare in Kirkwood and Circle of Concern in Valley Park – two local charities that work year round meeting the needs of those going without food in the area.
