Plans for a winter fireworks display in Downtown Kirkwood look to move forward tonight as the Kirkwood City Council will vote on whether to approve a bill that appropriates Parks and Recreation reserve funds for the Dec. 29 show. The council will take its first vote on a bill that authorizes Mayor Art McDonnell to enter into a $7,000 contract with J&M Displays for the company to provide the 2012 New Year’s Fireworks Display. Fireworks will be launched from Kirkwood City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 29 following entertainment beginning at 6 p.m., according to the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District. A multi-year agreement between Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri will allow patients to continue to receive care without interruption to in-network benefits.
Des Peres Hospital has reached a multi-year agreement with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri that will allow patients covered by Anthem to continue receiving care without any interruption in their in-network benefits. The hospital also has worked with Anthem so that the HealthLink agreement will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012, which protects patients' in-network benefits, said Simone Valle, a spokesperson for Des Peres Hospital. Des Peres Hospital announced last December that it would cancel managed care contracts with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri and Healthlink by the first of the year because of failed contract negotiations. According to a source who is an executive in the construction industry Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) has selected BSI Constructors to be the general contractor for the Ladue school’s new science, technology, engineering and math facility. The James McDonnell family recently donated $21.5 million to MICDS, which will be used to build the facility that is being touted by the school as the most advanced in the region. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility will feature lab space dedicated to research in plant sciences with access to a greenhouse and classrom/labs 30 percent larger than standard classrooms.
