Kirkwood police received additional reports from residents who fell victim to fraud after their credit and debit cards were used following the Schnucks security breach.

Between May 6 and May 12, Kirkwood Police said they received an additional three reports of identity-theft related to the Schnucks grocery chain credit and debit card security breach. This takes the total reports made by residents to at least 84, according to police. As previously reported by Patch, Kirkwood police had already taken more than 80 reports from residents who fell victim to fraud from the breach. Scott Schnuck, chairman and CEO of Schnucks, issued a video apology on YouTube.
The Chairman and CEO of Schnucks is apologizing for the attack on it’s credit card payment system. In a video posted to the Schnucks Markets YouTube page Friday, May 10, CEO Scott Schnuck said access was blocked on March 30 and that all new credit and debit cards would not be affected. Schnuck cautions, however, that any cards used before March 30 are still subject to fraud. According to Fox 2 News, Schnucks estimates 2.4 million credit and debit card numbers may have been stolen over a three month period. Three class-action lawsuits have been filed against the grocery chain since the incident occurred, Fox 2 reports.
Kirkwood police said more reports of fraudulent charges on credit and debit cards are coming in from residents, taking the total received to more than 80.

Customers of Commerce Bank should keep an eye on the mail. You're likely getting new debit cards, even if you didn't ask for one. Clayton-based Commerce Bancshares confirms that customers throughout the region are getting new cards as a precaution following a security breach at Schnucks grocery stores around the area that compromised customer financial data. Carl Bradbury, Commerce's Director of Consumer Products, wouldn't identify Schnucks by name in an interview Thursday but did acknowledge "a large event" where cards were considered compromised, prompting the move. Monday morning, Schnucks released its list of St. Louis area stores that were impacted by the recent security breach. As a result of that breach, Schnucks customers across the St. Louis area have found fraudulent charges on their debit and cards. The Schnucks stores on the list (which can be found in the PDF portion of this article along with a timeline issued by Schnucks) are located in a number of Patches throughout St. Louis, St. Charles and surrounding counties. Gendale police have received numerous reports of residents whose credit and debit cards are being used around the world after shopping at Schnucks stores.

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. April 1 - April 7: Kirkwood police stated that between Monday, April 1 and Sunday, April 7, they received 16 reports of identity theft related to the Schnucks credit and debit card security breach. Authorities said all of these recent incidents involved the victims' credit card accounts being used to make purchases in other states.
