Crushed Red is wrapping up preparations to open in Kirkwood's Station Plaza. The restaurant is the second location in St. Louis, next to the parent Crushed Red in Clayton. Powell Kalish with Crushed Red told Patch the restaurant would open Monday, serving up create-your-own salads, soups, pizzas and "shareables" (appetizers). Kalish said they will also serve beer and wine, and host happy hours. Take a look at Crushed Red's menu here. RFT readers chose Crushed Red in Clayton as the St. Louis area's favorite spot for salad, the publication revealed in its Restaurants 2013 guide. The nod from the Riverfront Times is good news for Kirkwood diners. Crushed Red's second location is slated to open at Station Plaza this month. "The product of a collaboration among some of St. Louis’ most respected restaurateurs, Crushed Red has earned its place as a must-visit lunch destination, even in Clayton’s crowded field, in a little over a year of business,” according to RFT. If you've walked around Kirkwood's Station Plaza lately, the buzzing of construction emitting from the corner next to Pickleman's may have caught your attention. Patch found out in February that Crushed Red, an "urban bake and chop shop" according to its website, is opening a second location in Kirkwood at the former Pazzo's Pizzeria space. Crushed Red currently has a restaurant in Clayton. Check out the menu here. Pazzo's pizza, the third occupant of that space, closed last week. The new pizzeria will be coming in April.
Maybe the fourth time's a charm for the seemingly snakebit site at the southern end of Kirkwood Station Plaza. It's been a Johnny Rockets, it's been a La Salsa and until last week, it was a Pazzo's pizzeria—opened for only about 15 months. St. Louis Magazine reported that Pazzo's last service was Saturday. It is also reporting that Crushed Red Urban Bake & Chop Shop, a pizza/salad/sandwich spot that has so far had a successful run in Clayton, will be taking over the space at 140 S. Kirkwood Road, anchoring the southern end of the strip that includes Bar Louie, Kaldi's and the relatively new Pickleman's.
