Majic Market is one step closer to reopening in Kirkwood after receiving approval for a special use permit from the Kirkwood Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this week. The new deli and convenience store will be located at 640 W. Woodbine Ave., across from the 7-Eleven. Owner Jacob Portnoy couldn't be happier with the new location given its close proximity to Downtown Kirkwood and the St. Louis Community College-Meramec campus. The landmark convenience store and deli at Essex and Geyer will temporarily close its doors mid-month as its owner searches for a new location.
Majic Market owner Jacob Portnoy is disappointed to be leaving the intersection that has housed the Kirkwood convenience store and deli for more than 20 years. Located at 500 W. Essex Ave., the market has served as a local stop-off, as well as a food attraction for area outsiders. But Portnoy says renewing a lease at the current location at West Essex Avenue and North Geyer Road is not an option. Majic Market will temporarily close its doors mid-month, as Portnoy works with the city of Kirkwood to secure a new location for the market, which he hopes to reopen by the end of March.
