Plans for a winter fireworks display in Downtown Kirkwood look to move forward tonight as the Kirkwood City Council will vote on whether to approve a bill that appropriates Parks and Recreation reserve funds for the Dec. 29 show. The council will take its first vote on a bill that authorizes Mayor Art McDonnell to enter into a $7,000 contract with J&M Displays for the company to provide the 2012 New Year’s Fireworks Display. Fireworks will be launched from Kirkwood City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 29 following entertainment beginning at 6 p.m., according to the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District. Pharmacist Paul Hueseman is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the newest business to join Downtown Kirkwood's shopping district, Greentree Health Mart Pharmacy. The locally owned and operated pharmacy opens Monday at 9 a.m. The pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be closed Sunday. The pharmacy is located at 301 South Kirkwood Rd. in the retail space formerly occupied by Hobby Station next to Grapevine Wine and Cheese. Three organizations are joining forces to speed the process of starting a business in Kirkwood and attract new development.
Members of three organizations have come together to speed the process of starting a business in Kirkwood. Jim Wright, president of the Kirkwood-Des Peres Chamber of Commerce announced the formation of a new task force at the Oct. 18 meeting of the Kirkwood City Council. The task force is called the Center for Economic Progress (CEP) and is made up of representatives from the chamber, the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District and the Kirkwood Business Development Corporation. Downtown businesses are still opening their doors to trick-or-treaters tonight from 5-7 p.m.
Downtown Kirkwood businesses are keeping their doors open to trick-or-treaters tonight from 5-7 p.m. as part of the Downtown Kirkwood Halloween Walk despite rain in the area. The National Weather Service predicts occasional showers tonight and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1 a.m. Eighteen businesses are participating and fun events are planned at Greentree Community Church as part of the Fall Festival.
