Kirkwood School Board Swears in New Members, Computer Labs To Go Mobile

Other business at Monday's meeting of the Kirkwood School Board included middle school renovations and approval of a Chinese teacher.

The Kirkwood Board of Education swore in two new members Monday evening, along with Scott Stream who begins his third term on the board. Heidi Meckes and E.J. Miller took their seats on the board, as Matt Cottler and Ruth Jayne took their leave. "My children have left for college, and I'm ready to pass the baton to someone more vested in this district," Jayne said in her farewell speech. "The voters have made a wise choice. I can step back into my life knowing that Kirkwood is in great hands." The board elected Scott Stream as president, Angie Bay as vice president and Andy Stewart as secretary. Nail-Biter Race Ushers in New Kirkwood School Board Members

Voters elected E.J. Miller, Heidi Meckes and Scott Stream to serve on the Kirkwood Board of Education.

The Kirkwood School District Board of Education has gained two new members, Heidi Meckes and E.J. Miller, following Tuesday's elections. Among the four contenders vying for three open seats on the board, Meckes gained the most favor with voters by capturing 29.26 percent of the votes. Voters elected incumbent and current board president Scott Stream to serve a third three-year term on the board, while Steve Hazan just barely fell short of capturing the needed votes to make it past Miller for a spot on the board. Miller secured 2,895 votes compared to Hazan's 2,844 votes. "It was certainly a nail biter," said Miller, who works as a corporate and business lawyer. Voters Turn Out to Polls in Display of Civic Pride

Despite a light election year, a steady stream of voters turned out to cast their ballots during the morning rush.

A mix of voters cast their ballots for Kirkwood and Webster Groves school board candidates and a county assessor this morning in a display of civic pride. Four candidates, E.J. Miller, Heidi Meckes, Steve Hazan and incumbent Scott Stream are vying for three open seats on the Kirkwood Board of Education. In Webster Groves, four candidates, David Addison, Amy Clendennen, incumbent Amy O’Brien and incumbent Emerson Smith are competing for three open seats on the Webster Groves Board of Education. L.K. “Chip” Wood faces Democratic candidate and three-term Missouri State Rep. Jake Zimmerman (83rd District) in the first ever St. Louis County Assessor race. School Board Candidates Share Policy Views at Forum

An hourlong Q&A allowed Kirkwood School Board candidates to weigh in on district issues before voters cast their ballots April 5.

Four candidates vying for three open seats on the Kirkwood School Board responded to questions from residents about a variety of district policies at a public forum Monday night. Candidates Board President Scott Stream, Kirkwood School District Foundation member E.J. Miller, Treasurer of Kirkwood Public Library Board of Trustees Steve Hazan, and chair of the District Revenue Committee Heidi Meckes were given one minute to respond to questions submitted before the meeting by some of the more than 75 residents who filled the district's central office administration building conference room.
