How to Reverse Facebook's Attempt to Change Your Email Address

Facebook changed your email address on your profile. We'll help you change it back.

Facebook changed your profile without telling you.  In 2010, Facebook gave all its users an "@facebook.com" email address. Some people used it, most people didn't, but it was always there if you wanted it. Until now. Sometime this month, Facebook changed everyone's default emails to their @facebook.com accounts. Your personal and work email accounts are still in the system, but only the Facebook account is listed. (Like Kirkwood Patch Facebook to stay up-to-date on Kirkwood happenings.) If you are like most of us and never use your Facebook email account, you'll want to add your regular email addresses to your account's profile page. Here's how: (Click through the pictures on this article to see the above steps illustrated.) If you do want…

Fallen Teen Lives on Through Facebook Page

A day after Cameron Vennard's tragic passing, an open Facebook group was created to celebrate his life. Now the group has 621 members and continues to grow.

Some say Cameron Vennard resembled a young David Gilmour of Pink Floyd; Father's Day was hard this year for Darryl this year; and a friend's thoughts wandered back to Cam and his family at a funeral. The reflections combine with YouTube videos, wrist bands, a tattoo and photos to form Cam Vennard 5-30, an open Facebook group for the teen whose life ended less than a month ago after being struck by an Amtrak train in Kirkwood.  The group that started a day after Cam's passing has 621 members and continues to grow. "We have been enjoying the different pics and stories about Cam. Please keep posting, it is very comforting," Father Darryl Vennard wrote on the page June 12. I didn't know Cam and I don't know his family other than a very brief …

Grace's Glendale Bus Stop Catches Eye of Nation

"Huffington Post" has featured Grace Mehan as its April 18 "Greatest Person of the Day."

Colleen Mehan started a Facebook page about her daughter's Metro bus stop in Glendale for two reasons. "First of all, distributing the photos from Grace and Tom’s bus stop events was getting pretty busy, so I thought it would be easier to share the love via a social network. Secondly, there’s a bigger message here than holiday fun at a bus stop," Colleen said in an email that announced the launch of Grace's Glendale Bus Stop. Today, Kirkwood Patch is happy to announce that the bigger message Colleen refers to is being shared with readers across the country. Grace Mehan is Huffington Post's "Greatest Person of the Day" for April 18. The publication directs readers to our story about Grace and her bus stop published earlier this week: Grace'…

Strike Pose and Win Big at Ginger and Mary Ann

The Downtown Kirkwood boutique is holding a unique Facebook photo contest along with some glamorous treatment for visitors to the store.

Patrons of Ginger and Mary Ann Boutique can win any garment that catches their fancy on Wednesday if they are willing to strike a pose. The Downtown Kirkwood fashion boutique is holding a unique contest through its Facebook page. Those who stop by the store on Wednesday can try on any item and pose for a picture that will be posted to the store's Facebook page. The model who gets the most "Likes" by Saturday wins the item they tried on. The contest is a first for the fashion boutique that opened about a year and a half ago. "We're really trying to generate more interest in the shop...and clearly social networking is one way of reaching customers who we might not reach otherwise," said Pam Debandt, co-owner of Ginger and Mary Ann Boutique. …

From Crab Rangoon to Snow Days: Week in Comments

Highlights from readers' comments posted across St. Louis Patch over the past week.

We don’t know about you, but we love to talk. We think you do too, based on the comments we see growing in Patchland. We thought you’d enjoy a selection of highlights from some of the comments you posted on our sites last week. Join in and respond if something catches your eye.   “Just thinkin'. If schools all went to iPads, what would they do when the electricity goes out? Of course everyone would be home anyway if an ice storm was predicted. I guess one could still check their FB on their cell phones until there is a major area wide outage.” - Joan Brannigan, Ladue-Frontenac Patch, on Carrie Selman’s take on Facebook in her column Teen Talk With Carrie.   “I support the original design proposed by the architects. I am not interested in …
