Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District anticipates a steady progression for Farmers Market in 2011.
The Downtown Kirkwood Advisory Commission met Wednesday to address an agenda primarily concerning the farmers market. The commission conducted a discussion with the Farmers Market Committee regarding 2011 rates and vendor reservations. The Farmers Market Committee suggested that the rental rates would not increase from 2010 in an effort to encourage more local vendor representation. According to market committee chair Walter Smith, Kirkwood rates are the most expensive amongst the regional farmers markets. “If you go to the farmers market, you see that we’re full, but we only have a handful of local vendors,” Smith said. “We just sent out the vendor market applications for this year, and the vendor rate increases from ten to fifteen …

With respect to to Ms. McShane's opinion, Summit Produce does not "just provide us with outdoor shopping". Summit Produce has dedicated the last 32 years to providing Kirkwood shoppers with outstanding Local Produce and lots of it. Summit was "doing local" long before "buying local" was cool.
