It was all about the individuals last week as Suburban South Conference baseball and soccer teams had already seen their 2011 seasons end. And it was a great week for some talented conference athletes in the state track and tennis tournaments. TRACK AND FIELD The Kirkwood girls finished 10th overall at the Class 4 State Track and Field Championships held last Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. The top effort by the Pioneers was a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay with Lianna Doty, Hannah Richardson, Elizabeth King and Elizabeth Luciani. Our weekly look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban South Conference: Patch Suburban South Boys Athlete of The Week The state's most prestigious tennis tournament of the regular season was held last Saturday and Kirkwood's doubles team of Josh Waite and Robert Conroy shined. They were named the Patch Suburban South Male Athletes of the Week. Kirkwood's Waite and Conroy were not seeded in the top eight in the draw of 16 but still defeated three seeded teams before falling in three sets in the championship match to Jimmy Hunter and Joe LaRose of Columbia Rock Bridge.
