Kirkwood Aquatic Center Passes Now on Sale

Non-residents will be able to purchase 2013 pool passes as well for the first time this year,

It's not too early to start dreaming about summer as Kirkwood pool passes went on sale this week and will be available for nonresidents for the first time this year.  For information on purchasing your pass, call Kirkwood City Hall at 822-5855 or visit the Kirkwood Parks and Recreation website. A current resident ID or Season Pass is required to enter the facilities.

Photos: Kirkwood Gets Aquatic for Pooches

Dogs get the last swim at Kirkwood pool before the aquatic center closes its doors for the winter.

Summer might be on its way out, but the Kirkwood Recreation Station Aquatic Center wasn't ready to shut its gates just yet. Tuesday and Thursday, the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation (MAAL) sponsored its annual dog pool parties, where owners could pay $10 to let their canine friends swim with fellow pooches. Former board member Jan Myers said MAAL has been hosting the swims for eight or nine years as part of a fundraising effort. All proceeds from this year's dog swims went toward lobbying the Missouri Legislature on issues such as puppy mills. "We've probably been doing them the longest," Myers said. Myers said roughly 200 dogs were present at the swim. "But they're socialized, loved, trained dogs. There hasn't been a single …

Photo Gallery: Residents Flock to KenDucky Derby

Dozens of children, parents and older adults turned out to the Kirkwood Aquatic Center Saturday night to cheer on little plastic ducks in support of Mudd's Grove. The Kirkwood Historical Society's held its third annual KenDucky Derby Duck Float, an event aimed to raise money for renovations to Mudd's Grove, home to the historical society. Residents purchased plastic ducks for $10 each or three for $25. Three Races were held, with cash prizes for first, second and third place. Kirkwood's Highlands Brewing Company provided complimentary beer and refreshments courtesy of owner Mike Willerton.
