Kirkwood Football's Andre Harris Signs With University of Iowa

Harris and 10 other Kirkwood High School athletes signed on to play collegiate sports.

Not every high school football player can have the sort of year Kirkwood High School Pioneers had this year. Eight members of Kirkwood's state championship football team signed on to play collegiate sports at schools throughout the country. Kirkwood High held a National Signing Day ceremony Wednesday to highlight a total of 11 students who will play higher level athletics. See more photos from the ceremony on the Kirkwood Patch Facebook page. Andre Harris, a senior wide receiver for the Pioneers this season, said he committed to University of Iowa in June. With a championship season -- Harris emphasizing it was the first time Kirkwood has taken the crown in 114 years -- signing for Iowa was just another highlight in a fantasy season. …

Kirkwood Football Accolades Continue to Roll In

The coach and players of Kirkwood High School's first State Championship Football team receive the highest honors in the region.

Kirkwood High School football coach Matt Irvin and six KHS football players were selected by the Missouri Football Coach’s Association for the all state football team. Head Coach Matt Irvin has been awarded as: For his High School Coach of the Year Award, Coach Irvin will be recognized at the 43rd Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Jack Buck Sports Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 11.  The KHS players nominated for the all-state football team are: First Team offense: Offensive Player of the Year First team Defense:  Defensive Player of the Year Information provided by Kirkwood School District. One of my favorite moments of the celebration Saturday was when the humble Coach Irvin noted the players' accomplishments but left out his own honors. Dr. Havener made sure to say something to the crowd after Irvin left the stage. Great coach, great character.   more ›

State Football Championship Prompts Community Celebration

Kirkwood High School will hold a community event at Station Plaza Saturday to celebrate the Pioneers' first state football championship. The celebration will include the KHS band, cheerleaders, football team and notable speakers.

It's a shame they have to do it the same time there is another event going on. The Kirkwood Freshman Wrestling Tournament is going on at the same time so the freshman players, coaches, and workers will be unable to attend. Sorry I will be unable to attend this wonderful event due to the commitment to the wrestling program.   more ›

Fans of Pioneer and Statesmen football will have to step it up in order for the Turkey Day Game to move on in a competition to determine the best high school football rivalry in the nation.

The Turkey Day Game rivalry between the Pioneers and Statesmen is trailing in a USA Today poll that aims to determine the best high school football rivalry in the country. SEE PAST STORY: USA TODAY: Is Kirkwood vs. Webster the Best High School Rivalry in the Nation? As previously reported by Patch, voting for rivalries at the state level began Nov. 19 and ends Dec. 3. As of Monday evening, the rivalry between Brookfield vs. Marceline high schools had captured 62 percent of votes, making it the front-runner in the competition between Missouri rivalries.
