'Soup's On' This Weekend in Kirkwood

The annual fundraiser helps Manor Grove, a Kirkwood-based, long-term health care facility.

(For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.)  According to St. Louis magazine, "Soup's On!" is an annual fundraiser that helps raise money for Kirkwood's Manor Grove long-term health care facility. "Soup's On!" is from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24. at the Meramec Community College Gym at 11333 Big Bend Road.   The first year the event was held, approximately 400 people attended and organizers are reportedly expecting up to 1500 to attend this weekend, the article states. According to St. Louis magazine, roughly two dozen soups and even desserts, most from local restaurants, will be available at the event. Adult tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Archers Realize Busch Stadium Dream

St. Louis Community College baseball players recently got a chance to realize a childhood dream: playing at Busch Stadium.

For Archers sophomore Larry Schimsa, the anticipation to take the field was becoming too much. As Schmisa sat in the stands at Busch Stadium and watched the St. Louis Cardinals play the Cincinnati Reds last Sunday, he said he just couldn't wait for the game to be over, so that he and his St. Louis Community College baseball teammates could take the field for a scrimmage game against Lewis and Clark Community College. “You get really antsy up there,” Schimsa said. “By the time it is the ninth inning, you can hardly sit still.” After the three-plus hour game ended and area youth finished running the bases for “Kids Run the Bases Day," the St. Louis Community College Archers baseball team, adorned in dark grey and blue uniforms, entered the …

National Buzz Surrounds Meramec's 'The Conversation'

Dennis Corcoran's award-winning new play opens tonight and holds the promise of a big future.

When the world premiere of The Conversation opens this weekend, audience members will see more than a fascinating play about a 1593 meeting between two of the world's most powerful women; they will see the birth of a production that could very well become the next big thing in American theatre. The play is written and performed by the Black Mirror Theatre Company, which consists of students from St. Louis Community College-Meramec. The work of theater demonstrates how a play with humble roots has the potential to rise to the most important stages in the U.S. and beyond.
