Art on the Town to Create Citywide Stage for Artists, Performers

The event, which will be held in the Old Orchard and Old Webster business districts, will feature more than 65 local artists and 25 performers.

If you're looking for art, music, dance or storytelling, you'll find it Saturday at Art on the Town in Webster Groves. That's when the Old Orchard and Old Webster business districts will turn into a citywide stage featuring more than 65 local artists and 25 performers. Adults and children will be able to see art demonstrations and create their own art. There will also be live music and dance and drama performances.  The event, which begins at noon, is sponsored by the Webster Community Arts Foundation (WCAF) in cooperation with the 63119 Arts! organization. More than 40 businesses along Big Bend Boulevard, Lockwood and Gore avenues are hosting the artists and performers, while offering their own creative twists throughout the day. Street Expansion Looks to Draw Old Orchard Shoppers

A resolution before the Webster Groves City Council proposes redevelopment of Garden Avenue in Old Orchard.

The Webster Groves City Council has approved the first reading of a resolution to improve road quality, sidewalks and landscaping along Garden Avenue. The construction, which has not reached final approval in order to begin, will add 6 feet in width to Garden Avenue south of Frisco Avenue. The sidewalk and narrow road choke traffic during the Farmers' Market and keep pedestrians from getting into Old Orchard, according to Mayor Welch. "If we can make this walkway, and this redevelopment really interesting and aesthetically pleasing, I think we'll see more spillover from Conservatory patrons and students," Welch said at the Webster Groves City Council meeting Tuesday night. Cookie Walk Encourages Local Business Support

Life gets sweeter for merchants and patrons of the Old Orchard Shopping District this holiday season.

Holiday shoppers were presented with a pleasant alternative to impersonal department store hassle thanks to the third annual Cookie Recipe Walk hosted by the Old Orchard shopping district. The event marked the second weekend of Webster Wonderland, a month-long holiday celebration among restaurants, merchants and entertainers in Webster Groves. Despite cold weather, the streets of Old Orchard and Big Bend Boulevard bustled with excitement surrounding the Cookie Walk from attendees and business owners alike.
