Police Find Car Stuck on Railroad Tracks, Arrest Driver

Kirkwood Police were able to remove the vehicle before anyone was injured.

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. On Sunday, at 1:31 a.m., police on routine patrol discovered a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks near the Union Pacific railroad crossing near Kirkwood Road and Argonne Drive. Investigation led to the arrest of the adult driver after he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was removed from the train tracks prior to any trains passing through the area. It's not uncommon for Kirkwood Police to respond to cars getting stuck on the city's railroad tracks. In October, police responded to a motor vehicle accident on South Kirkwood Road near the Union Pacific Railroad. One vehicle left the roadway …

I have some wooden posts, some string, and bright yellow tubing I can donate to block off these vehicle entrances since the railroad safety idiots are kinda slow figuring it out.   more ›

Judge Jack T. Marionneaux said the offer took him by surprise. Two years ago, while presiding over a state lawsuit involving a motorist killed at a Louisiana railroad crossing, Judge Marionneaux said he was among several people invited to ride on a train and learn about grade-crossing accidents. "It was really a bit strange," Judge Marionneaux said in court proceedings. "I had never been called …   more ›

Engineering Consultants Release Schedule for Murdoch Bridge Reconstruction

The Old Orchard Advisory Commission examines detour plans for Webster Groves traffic during the upcoming six-month reconstruction period.

The Old Orchard Advisory Commission met Tuesday to discuss details surrounding a yearlong operation to demolish and reconstruct Murdoch Bridge over the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad in Webster Groves. According to Engineering consultant Robert E. Polk of the Farnsworth Group, the existing bridge does not meet state or federal requirements for railroad clearance. "The city was successful at obtaining 80 percent federal matching funds to construct a new bridge," Polk said. "The bridge has many conditions that indicate that it's served its lifetime. It was built in 1930 and it's ready to be taken down." Polk presented an anticipated schedule that will begin in June 2011 with the approval of federal plans and obligation of …
