BBB Warns Residents of Door-to-Door Scam

Young people are falsely posing as students of L’École Culinaire in an effort to get victims to buy phony magazine subscriptions, according to the Better Business Bureau.

The Better Business Bureau released the following alert Tuesday. St. Louis area residents should be alert for a new door-to-door magazine sales scam involving young people posing as students of L’École Culinaire, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. A homeowner in the 5400 block of Pernod Avenue, in the city’s North Hampton neighborhood, said she was approached by a young man and a woman last week who asked her to buy magazine subscriptions to be sent to servicemen and women overseas. They told her that they were enrolled at the well-known culinary school in St. Louis County and were raising money to further their studies in Italy. The homeowner said she became suspicious when she asked the young woman for the name of the street where …

Funding for Future St. Louis-Area Transportation Projects Uncertain

Safety, job creation and better transportation were cited Monday as reasons Missouri needs funding for better roads, rails and bridges.

The future needs and challenges facing Missouri’s transportation system were the subject of a public forum Monday at the Missouri Department of Transportation in Town and Country. Such forums will be held across the state throughout the spring and summer. The Blue Ribbon Citizens Committee on Missouri Transportation Needs is holding the meetings. The committee was appointed by Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley, R-Perryville, in early March. The 21-member panel consists of of business leaders, contractors and special interest groups from across the state. Members are looking for public input on future transportation needs and solutions. MoDOT Seeks Public's Input on Transportation Needs

A meeting will be held Monday afternoon to address the needs and challenges of Missouri's transportation system. It's a chance for St. Louis area drivers to voice concerns.

The Missouri Department of Transportation's ‘Blue Ribbon’ Committee hopes to hear input from residents Monday on future transportation needs. MoDOT stated in a news release the meeting begins at 1 p.m. Monday at MoDOT's Transportation Management Center, 14301 South Outer Forty Road, in Town and Country. MoDOT released the following information in that press release. It's hard not to notice the "Big Boy" steam locomotive at 600 tons and 7,000 horse power. Okay, so we never saw the beast in person but the power of the engineering wonder caught our eye on Facebook. Severe Weather, Large Hail Could Hit Area Tonight

A much greater threat for tornadoes exists today, the Weather Channel says.

Kirkwood and the greater St. Louis-area is at the greatest risk to see severe weather, including tornados and large hail, today, The Weather Channel reports.  Today's forecast, according to the National Weather Service, calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 5 p.m. However, thunderstorms are more likely later into the night and into early Monday.  The Weather Channel says strong-to-severe thunderstorms are likely for a boundary that stretches more than 1,000 miles from the Great Lakes region southward into the heart of Texas. Construction on I-270 Widening Project Starts Monday

Various lanes of the interstate from Manchester Road to Interstate 44 will be closed nightly through early May.

The Missouri Department of Transportation released the following update about the Interstate 270 Widening Project. The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin construction on the Interstate 270 Widening Project between Manchester Road (Route 100) and Interstate 44 starting Monday. MoDOT will close various lanes on Interstate 270 in this section from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays in April and early May. Lane closures are necessary for crews to perform paving and restriping work to prepare for the widening work on the interstate. Because of the restrictions on the roadway and rock bluffs, MoDOT will permanently narrow all lanes on northbound and southbound I-270 to 11 feet (the same width as I-44 during the I-64 reconstruction in …
