In his blog, St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch said the attack last week was an example of schools not being aggressive enough in reporting campus crime.
In the wake of an attack on a Chesterfield student on the campus of St. Louis Community College-Meramec and its subsequent mishandling by the university, St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch is urging schools to be more aggressive in their treatment of suspects in criminal incidents. Writing in his blog, Fitch said that part of the problem is that educational institutions often would rather handle crimes as "school violations" instead of notifying police. “This goes on more than you realize,” Fitch wrote. “Schools, like most instiutions that rely on public support for funding, do not want to look bad or admit they have problems for fear that their next bond issue or tax increase might not pass.” Fitch then specifically referenced his …

St. Louis County Police said the man left 24 messages in an 8-hour period, stating the woman would not see tomorrow and that he planted a remote device in her car.
A 63-year-old man, who left threatening messages for his wife, faces a criminal charge. St. Louis County Police said Dominic J. Arena, 63, of Piedmont, left 24 messages on his wife’s cell phone in an eight-hour period Wednesday. The woman works in an unincorporated area between Town and Country and Des Peres. In several of the messages, Arena said his wife would not live to see tomorrow and that he had planted a remote device in her car, according to the police report. Arena was charged with Thursday with aggravated stalking, a class D felony. He was being held in St. Louis County jail Friday. Bail was set at $50,000. St. Louis County Police sent out a warning about the deadly hallucinogen after a parent said she believes her daughter may have been slipped N-Bomb at a New Year's Eve party and nearly overdosed.
St. Louis County Police are warning parents and teens about a new sythentic drug called "N-Bomb" that is already responsible for deaths in several states. The name stems from its chemical composition, 2C-I-NBOMe or 25INBOMe, and police say it is a powerful hallucinogen that is a more potent and deadly derivative of mescaline. It has been reportedly responsible for fatal overdoses in California, North Dakota, Minnesota, Lousiana and Virginia. St. Louis County Police said the substance has been purchased undercover in the metro area by drug detectives. The move comes in the wake of a deadly shooting rampage in Newtown, Connecticut which has left dozens dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School, many of them young children.

The St. Louis County Police Highway Safety Unit and officers from the Division of Patrol will be conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout the month of December, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Police Department. Specially trained officers will be checking motorists in an effort to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers on our streets and highways. Inconvenience to motorists will be minimal. The officers participating in the enforcement have had additional training in the recognition of motorists who have had too much to drink or are under the influence of illegal drugs. The agency recently used money from the Department of Homeland Security to purchase two new vehicles worth a total of $600,000.
A grant from the Department of Homeland Security has allowed the St. Louis County Police Department to equip its Tactical Operations Unit with a new specialized equipment truck and an armored vehicle. The two vehicles will help the unit’s SWAT team be able to respond more effectively and efficiently to various kinds of threats, from “active shooters” to a biological terrorist attack. Bureau of Patrol Support Commander Capt. John Belmar said the $240,000 equipment truck and $360,000 armored vehicle were paid for entirely by the grant, but the money was not easy to come by. “We were pretty stoked about it,” he said. “It is a lot of hard work to not only apply for [the grant] but to be in the position to accept it.” The role of local law …

St. Louis County Police Department officers will add extra patrols at all St. Louis County polling places under their jurisdiction during the Tuesday, Nov. 6, General Election.
St. Louis County Police Department Divisions of Patrol and Special Operations officers will focus their attention on polling sites located in the municipalities served through the county's seven police precinct stations, stated St. Louis County police officer Randy Vaughn in a Monday morning news statement. "Presidential elections generally bring large voter turnouts, which are expected this year," he said. “We have not had many problems in recent years,” said St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch in the release. “Most participants have kept their focus on their right to vote.
