We've been hoping forecasters would back off that prediction for a large spring snowfall, but they haven't.
Our hopes for a change of heart among weather forecasters have been dashed. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are still calling for a massive winter storm to sweep over the St. Louis metro area overnight tonight. Glenn Zimmerman, meteorologist for Patch news partner FOX2, says rain should start tonight in the area at about 9 or 10 p.m., changing into snow sometime Sunday morning. He said the heaviest bursts of snowfall may be from around noon to 2 p.m. That forecast differs only slight from the storm alert from the National Weather Service: Rain will overspread the area Saturday evening. The snowstorm rolling through has area businesses, schools and other programs closing early or keeping doors closed for the day. Add your business's snow day schedule to our list.
UPDATED: 4:20 p.m. Thursday With winter weather continuing throughout the day Thursday, several area locations are closing early, canceling programs or staying closed for the day. West County Center closed at 2 p.m. Thursday due to the weather. Nordstrom and jcpenney are also closed. Operating hours for Friday, February 22, 2013 are also under review. Chesterfield Mall and South County Center closed at 4 p.m. due to the inclement weather conditions. The city of Kirkwood cancelled its city council meeting and work session that were scheduled for tonight. They will meet instead on Feb. 28: work session at 5:30 p.m.; council meeting at 7 p.m., at City Hall. The St. Louis County Library closed all branches Thursday. Don't see your business …

Metropolitan Sewer District officials say preparation now and taking simple steps when heavy rains come can make a difference.
The Metropolitan Sewer District issued the following advisory ahead of what could amount to several inches of rain this weekend as the remnants of Hurricane Isaac arrive in the St. Louis region: FLOODING: Anyone who lives adjacent to or near a waterway – no matter how small the waterway is during dry weather – lives in a floodplain or drainage way. During high intensity rainfalls (a large amount of rain falling in a short period of time), creeks, streams, rivers, and other waterways can quickly become a torrent of rushing water, possibly causing extensive flash flooding, and putting property and human safety at risk.
