UPDATE: Fire Crews Respond to Car Fire at West County Mall

Fire crews were called to West County Center Friday morning for a vehicle fire that was put out without incident.

UPDATED: 11:40 a.m.- If you saw fire crews at West County Center just after 10 a.m. Friday, the mall was not on fire. According to the Des Peres Fire Department, crews were called for a vehicle fire in the parking garage near Interstate 270 and Manchester Roads. Witnesses tell Patch, the fire created quite a bit of smoke, but fire crews now tell Patch the fire was put out without incident and the fire was contained to the car, despite construction taking place in the garage. "It took a little bit longer to get the car our because of the repairs going on," Des Peres Fire Marshal Sean Quinn tells Patch. Quinn said the mall's water supply was also being worked on so crews had to use a ladder truck to supply water put out the fire. "Nothing …

Monument Design Gets Go-Ahead in Des Peres

The Des Peres Board of Aldermen reportedly approved a contract to design a monument and landscaping near West County Shopping Center.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Des Peres Board of Aldermen approved the contract last week to design the monument and landscaping at the southwest corner of Manchester and Ballas roads near West County Shopping Center. The article states that the original landscaping placed in that area did not achieve the "desired results," so this new design will focus on creating more of a "park-like" look. According to the Post, the contract for the design was approved for up to $58,500 and will be paid for with funds that the city reserved as part of the Manchester/Ballas Tax Increment Financing District for West County Center. West County Center Turns 10

A few facelifts are in-store for Des Peres' large shopping mall, given its age. City officials believe there are new developments to which to look forward; only bad news involves tax revenues.

It's time to plan the next decade of shopping experiences at 80 W. County Center in Des Peres. The "first" decade of consumer shopping there just whizzed by. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) West County Center first was built in 1969. The original mall closed in 2001, and a new mall on the site opened in 2002. Now that the center arrived at its latest 10-year mark, Des Peres city officials and shop managers are taking looks at how to ensure its infrastructure, ambiance and consumer offerings. LEGO Store Coming to West County Center in 2013

The first LEGO Store in the St. Louis area is expected to open in May. The store will feature interactive play areas and carry more than 4 million bricks at all times.

West County Center will get a LEGO Store in May of 2013, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. The LEGO Group announced its plans to open the store Thursday in a press release. The St. Louis Business Journal reports: The 2,500-square-foot toy store will feature a “Living Room,” or interactive play area, as well as a “Pick-A-Brick Wall,” where customers can hand pick LEGO bricks and elements in bulk. The store will carry the full range of LEGO products, and it will have more than 4 million LEGO bricks in the store at all times. To learn more, visit the St. Louis Business Journal.

OMG. We're going to be camped out there, I just know it. I visited one of these at the Mall of American once and was blown away. You could walk in and get a cup of wheels or a handful of blue bricks. Totally awesome.   more ›

68 West County Mall Stores to Open at Midnight on Black Friday

More than 50 stores at West County Center will open at midnight on Black Friday, Nov. 23. The mall's other stores will open at 5 a.m., with times varying slightly for department stores. Fireworks to Mark 10-Year Anniversary of West County Center

A ceremony takes place Thursday morning with events through the weekend.

Fireworks, a dove release, Dora the Explorer and handprint tiles are all part of a 10-year anniversary ceremony Thursday to commemorate West County Center in Des Peres. The ceremony is from 9-9:25 a.m. The first 100 attendees will receive a commemorative gift package, including a $10 dining gift card.  Fans can meet Dora the Explorer and Diego from 9 a.m. to noon and 3-6 p.m., and children can create commemorative handprint tiles that will be permanently displayed at the mall.
