Kirkwood City Council Votes in Favor of New Requirements for Liquor, Tobacco, Carwash Businesses

The council voted in favor of the new requirements in a first reading of the amendment to the code. A second and final vote will be held at a Jan. 17 council meeting.

The Kirkwood City Council held a public hearing at their Jan 3. meeting to discuss adding an amendment to the city's zoning code that would require owners of liquor, tobacco or car wash businesses to secure a special use permit before developing. If passed, business owners would need to go before the Kirkwood Planning and Zoning Commission and Kirkwood City Council to obtain this permit. Kirkwood Planning and Zoning Simplifies Zoning Code

The Kirkwood Planning and Zoning commission met on Wednesday night with residents to explain the changes coming to the zoning code.

The first planning and zoning code for the city of Kirkwood was adopted in 1967. One of the entries in the code explains the steps necessary if a person wants to open a typewriter repair shop. “If someone comes in to Planning and Zoning and says he wants to open a computer-repair shop, we would have to go by that code,” said Jeremy Knapp, zoning administrator, during a Planning and Zoning meeting with residents where he informed them of the changes coming to the zoning code. “We need to have something more simple, more modern.” Knapp showed a PowerPoint presentation that highlighted the main issues with the current zoning code. Knapp said the current code was hard to follow, lacked consistency and had several entries that were outdated. …

On the Mobil issue, Planning and Zoning only listened to the Wallis company's proposal. They failed to ask or allow any public comment or interaction from the residents living in the area. I hope they make changes to allow public comment whenever there is a business proposal being considered in Kirkwood in any future proposals.   more ›

City Asks Residents to Weigh In on Zoning Code

The Planning and Zoning Commission is reviewing Kirkwood's Zoning Code and is asking for input from residents.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is in the process of reviewing the city's Zoning Code which needs to be modernized and reformatted, according to the City of Kirkwood. Residents are encouraged to attend the March 7 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting where city staff will present what has been reviewed and possible changes the commission may consider. After the presentation, the public will have a chance to comment on the current Zoning Code Code and the Planning and Zoning process. The March 7 Planning and Zoning meeting starts at 7 p.m., in City Council Chambers. Related Content:

Thats right Christie! They ACT like they care, but P & Z didn't even let residents speak at their meeting over Mobil! The Mayor and some of the members of the City Council have their own agenda despite whatever the residents say(or aren't allowed to say). This is just sure to be another dog and pony show.   more ›
