While performing yard work last week, a Kirkwood homeowner unearthed an unexpected surprise that prompted a call to Kirkwood police. On Thursday, at 3:46 p.m., Kirkwood police responded to the 100 block of Mitchell Street after a resident reported digging up a hand grenade from a flower bed. Police determined the grenade to be inert and not dangerous, according to the Kirkwood Police Department. This isn't the first time this year Kirkwood police have responded to an incident involving a hand grenade. In September, a business owner notified police after a man tried to sell a hand grenade from World War II at a Kirkwood business.
